Upgrading a Snap Appliance NAS 4000 Series with new Hard Drives?

Discussion in 'Windows Networking' started by Scott Townsend, Feb 26, 2004.

  1. Is it possible to Upgrade the SnapServer 4000 Series??

Mine Currently has 4 30gb drives in it and I wanted to put in 4 250gb
    drives.

SnapAppliance said that the OS does not Support more then 120gb...
    Seems kind of strange.

I've read on the ned how to upgrade the 1000 series. Has anyone done
    this with the 4000 Series?

    Thanks,
    Scott<-

  2. The limit is actually 137GB, and adding a hard drive larger than this to
hardware (or an OS) that doesn't support 48 bit addressing either will not
work at all, or will only give you 120GB per disk. I'm assuming you have to
upgrade your hardware (BIOS) and OS, but I'm not sure how easy that will be
    on the SnapServer.

Why don't you just get 120GB drives? That's 4 times more space than you
    have already.
