I can connect to the Win2k Pro machine and have a folder
shared, but when I attempt to browse the Win2k Pro machine
from the Win98 machine. A password box pops up asking for
a password to connect to an admin share and I don't know
why this is happening and I can't view the actual folder I
    shared.

The password box is asking for a password for:
    \\Clairesown\IPC$

This is the exact share name. I am not attempting to
connect to the "IPC$" admin share. Why is this password
    box popping up?

The 12 character share limitation wouldn't cause this.
Would it? Can someone instruct me as to what to do.

  2. The IPC$ prompt means that Win2k doesn't recognize the user who wants
to access its files. There's no correct reply to that prompt.

The solution is to create a user account on Win2k with the same user
name and password that you use to log onto the Win98 machine.

If the share name is longer than 12 characters, Win98 can't even tell
that the share exists. It wouldn't cause the IPC$ prompt.
