role of logical networks?

    In this article (http://www.nwfusion.com/news/2004/112204trapeze.html)
    they talk about how Trapeze will release software can be
    used to divvy up a wireless LAN into 64 logical networks that
    cater to different groups of users and applications.

    I don't quite understand why this is even a good idea. I
    thought the industry was moving to an identity based configuration
    approach where you could assign particular individuals to their
    proper vlan. Having to manage all these logical networks and
    BSSIDS seems like a step backwards.
