Recommend any ISP, leaving Plusnet due to poor support

  1. Due to the lack of support from Plusnet and not addressing my questions I am
    considering leaving Plusnet.

    Can anyone recommend a good provider without all this throttling rubbish,
    also one where support actual answer posts

    Have a look at IDnet, no personal experience. Looking at the forums, them
    seem to have happy customers and reasonable prices

    I have had my tickets answered in reasonable timeframe recently. From what
    I hear of other ISP's they are no better and maybe no worse. Most of them
    throttle, most of them cap.

    Off to Nildram - TOMORROW 15th May - (hooray!).

    Reason for leaving :- utterly cheesed off with all the winging,
    moaning, whining complaining, carping, chiding, condemning,
    denouncing, unsatisfied, picky, grumbling, petulant ,ill-humored,
    fractious, discontented, sullen, unhappy, cantankerous...(need I go
    on?)..posts that you get about Plusnet here, in ADSLGuide and in the
    forums. It really is sad and depressing.

    Are all Plusnet customers miserable grumpy complaining old b.....s or
    is it Plusnet? In the 'old days' this was a great place to be. Not now

    The last straw for me was about a month ago was when Plusnet's Usenet
    server was running like treacle, and the response from a ticket - 31
    hours later was "do three speed tests, preferably one after midnight".
    I got my MAC code a couple of days later. At least I got a MAC code
    within 45 minutes.

    I chose Nildram because I will get a 50 gigabyte cap for a similar
    price to Plusnet (- even though I am unlikely to use more that 10 or
    15gigs), because they give a (somewhat restricted) but free access to
    Giganews - and also because there doesn't seem to be much wingeing
    about them in ADSLGuide.

    So, goodbye everyone. I will miss all you 'grumpy old men'

  10. Oh dear. This place is getting crowded with invisible people.

    I am contemplating moving to Nildram having heard many good reports and
    seen very good and consistent results at ADSLGuide over the last couple
    of years. I only do about 2-3Gb a month though. Not sure how good they
    would be for really heavy usage.

    But PlusNet excel in changing the rules without little warning,
    frequently. I've nearly got all of my clients off them now.

  14. Try Zen Internet, well regarded but a little more expensive than Plusnet, or Newnet
    who seem to be offering a good range of packages.

    I myself will be applying for Migration code just as soon as my 12months is

    Why? No answers to tickets raised and in some case automatically closed with
    no email to say why (and yes my email works because you inform me I'm
    getting billed).

    My first ticket that got closed automatically showed number of incidents at
    137. the last one the number of incidents was around the 800 mark with an
    average answer time of 51min 21sec. That was over 12 hours ago!!

    So, before you make a comment like major support moves this weekend, blah,
    blah, blah.

    I assume that PlusNet must have know about this major move? So why still
    post average response times of 51min 21sec?

    Does anyone think it is acceptable to a. not respond to a support request
    for over 5 days and b. to then delete it without response?

  16. Well if you looked checked the support tickets you would know why

    I am on level 1 restriction which should allow me to us external news
    servers and P2P at are reduced speed.

    However a reduced speed isn't exactly what 3k is it, it's crawling, usually
    timing out.

    I have sent several tickets about this, but it seems when the evidence is
    shown to you you chose to do nothing

    Hello The,
    I've been with Nildram for nearly 5 years now and have no complaints. I'm
    a average to heavy'ish user (I work from home, use P2P and bittorrent, voip,
    grab large database snapshots for work, use offsite source control etc etc)
    and they don't seem to enforce any restrictive policies provided I stay under
    my 50Gb allowance. They're not the cheapest but I find that they do answer
    the phone and I can't remember the last outage they had either. I'd be wary
    of moving elsewhere.

    I hate to add to the plusNet negative comments but.....

    A while back I suggested to a mate who didn't have ADSL that they try plusNET
    because another mate has been recommending it to me. Anyhoo got them signed
    up and a couple of weeks ago there was a problem unrelated to their installation.
    I called PN, I waited ~40mins on the phone to speak to support who then told
    me to uninstall and reinstall the DSL modem/drivers. I explained that I'd
    taken my laptop down to check out the install and that was failing to connect
    as well. The errors indicated by the modem software indicated that ATM packets
    from the exchange were corrupted, I passed the exact error messages along
    to the support bod...but he wouldn't listen and wasn't interested. I asked
    him to find out if there was some problem at the local exchange but he said
    that he couldn't and wouldn't, no explanation as to why. I think what annoyed
    me most was the lazy didn't-give-a-crap tone of his voice and general can't
    do approach. Never had that with Nildram.

    So yeh....kinda glad I stayed with Nildram now.

    Do they restrict the newsgroups you can get or can you get them all

    They offer 2 * 256Kbps feeds with a 20GB download limit per month.

    I have a choice of over 105,000 news groups to subscribe to and it all looks
    pretty unrestricted as far as I can see.

    That said, if you're after binaries then I'd probably subscribe to
    I really only use it for text based techy stuff but I've never had any issues
    with it.
