    Indeed. so-called BT/TalkTalk/Sky fibre is VDSL - also known as Fibre To
    The Cabinet or FTTC.

    And very good it is too.

    DOCSIS is also FTTC, but not VDSL. But you have to remember that to all
    intents and purposes, the Virgin exchange IS the cabinet.

    Indeed. BT has been disposing of many old and essentially empty telephone exchange buildings. As a rough approximation a hand sized gigabit Ethernetswitch costing under a tenner has equivalent bandwidth to an old fashioned[local] telephone exchange with thousands of lines.
