pptpd vpn problem

    am having trouble setting up my vpn server in linux. i am using
    poptop. i have patched the kernel and ppp for mppe support. but when i
    enable mppe and try to connect with my win2k client i get the follow
    output in my syslog:

  2. This pppd doesn't support the option mppe-128 and that caused it to exit.
    Pppd exited and didn't create the PTY PPP interface so the pptpd "CTRL"
    can't write to the PTY or read a GRE packet from it.
    The end.

    Remove the offending option (mppe-128), or find a pppd that supports
    it. I think one such pppd is ppp-2.4.2b3, available from ftp.samba.org,
    except there the option is likely the one called require-mppe-128.

    But 2.4.2b3 doesn't support the MCCP part of MS-CCP because MCCP is
    patented. And if the MCCP option is requested by the peer (the Windows
    2000 "client" then you're in trouble since the "client" almost certainly
    won't allow the PPP link to come up.

    Confused? Blame Microsoft.
