Networking 98 to XP-can't access drives on XP machine

    Win 98SE to Win XP Home

    Set up a wireless network through a SMC router, XP drives
    seen in Network Neighborhood of 98 machine. I can access
    the drives of the 98 machine from XP machine. I have all
    drives on both machines set for sharing.
    When I try to access the drives on the XP machine, I get
    an error message saying " 'XP drive name' is not
    accessable. Not enough memory is available. Ouit some
    programs." 98 machine has 184 megs RAM installed, with
    Performance tab showing 80% available. I can access the
    internet OK through the wireless router.

    Also cannot setup printer on XL machine from the 98
    machine, when I try to browse the XP macine's printers,
    none are shown even though I set two XP printers up to be

    Searched a lot of knowledge base articles with no luck.

    Thanks in advance for any insights or advice.

  3. The problem is probably that an antivirus program has changed an
    obscure TCP/IP setting. Please see this Microsoft Knowledge Base
    article for a likely solution, specifying a value of 15 for
    IRPStackSize on the XP computer:

    Antivirus Software May Cause Event ID 2011;en-us;177078
    Make sure that the printers' share names aren't longer than 12
    characters. If they are, 98 won't see them.
