Leaving Plusnet

    Maybe because some of us are "not economically viable" for Mr Beardy's
    outfit to run fibre to and those who can get it probably already have,
    are happy and have nowt to complain about.

    Yes, that's the situation here. Also, where they do have his service
    in our town, his cabinets appear to be made of tin plate that the local
    spoofters prise open with a lollipop stick, and 'reconfigure'.

    Of course this can have advantages for DIY fault finding. A friend of
    mine moved himself to a less corroded multitap.

    At least BT's FTTC cabinets appear to be rather more robust.

    Coverage. VM only cover parts of cities that were cabled by NTL etc. and
    are not expanding. So although the service may be good it is not an
    option for many.

    Actually Virgin *are* expanding their network again, 25 years ago their
    predecessors stopped short of reaching several villages here, this week
    I noticed them digging, and searching the Local Authority website for
    roadworks notifications they have extensive works planned in the coming
    weeks, including FTTH for one village.

    About a year after BT FTTC came along!

  5. They're still not expanding it into the unadopted road in which I
    live, despite their service being available to others around us only
    yards away. At least, after several years, they've stopped sending
    junkmail trying to persuade me to take a service they can't supply, so
    that's something.
    Indeed. As I've now got a FTTC service that's more than adequate for
    my needs, I'm no longer interested anyway.

    The early bird, and all that...

    BT did that for several years here, for their fibre 'Infinity', with
    monthly adverts. 'Infinity' meant that it was out of reach.
    Now that it's available, the adverts. have almost stopped.

    Strange. Maybe they have realised that most people have plumped for
    other ISPs, and have given up. They have a terrible service reputation
    in this area.

    VM? Hah, no chance, too far away from a major city.

  7. In my case because I've never lived in a house where it's available.

    OTOH my nephew is getting 200mbit off them.

    : ZEN said not to place my order until 14 days before the end of my
    : Plusnet contracts as that is all they need.
    : There's confidence that they work to their timescale.

    Not as good as Plusnet who let me book the change from BT to them a month
    in advance!!! The change happened on the day I selected with plenty of
    email and SMS reminders.
