Hi, I have my MAC and I am about to leave PlusNet.

I have put "Tiscali Option 2" and "BT Broadband Option 1" at the top of
my list as new ISPs so, can any of you helpful guys out there tell me
what exactly I do get with their packages please?

I don't seem to be able to pin down the exact package contents from the
    respective websites.

BTW if anyone knows a good reason NOT to go with either of the above,
    please feel free to comment.

Read all about phorm before moving to BT; be sure you'd like your
browsing to be spied on in detail.

A poorer service than you get from Plusnet.

    http://www.thinkbroadband.com/isp/compare.html?isp_7=1&isp_16=1&isp_77=1&isp_23=1&commit=Compare

Compares your old ISP with your 2 suggestions and at he other end of the
scale you can see how good some ISPs are.

My neighbour just signed up to Tiscali's phone and broadband deal and has
had 2 weeks of inoperative phone and about one week of no broadband. They
are a useless bunch of IDIOTS.

Why what? Choice of ISP or reason for leaving PlusNet?

Thanks for the link as I had forgotten about that site. Makes
interesting reading and provides food for thought.

I left Tiscali because I was fed up trying to get any sense out of India. I
know of three case of people who were with Tiscal and lost their telephone
for well over week when they were unbundled (One ran up a bill of over a
£100 using his mobile) India are very polite and helpful!! but useless.

I've been with Pipex and happy for ages, they've now sold out to Tiscali -
I'm now getting just above dial-up speeds a lot of the time, regular
dropouts and useless technical service. Two weeks on, they still haven't
    sorted a tech. problem I'm having ....I wouldn't touch them with a
    bargepole!

I'm off to Sky, because I have the TV already and I pay what "seems to be"
half the price for twice the service.

    Just my experience ....Good luck!

    My neighbour would agree 100%.

If it continues like this he may very well pay BT to take him back, his phone's
not been working right for about 2 weeks out of 4 and they seem to be incapable
    of fixing it.

Similar to my experience with Tiscali. I moved from them to PlusNet. Maybe
they're not perfect, but they're a helluva lot better than Tiscali. I
    certainly wouldn't move back.

Well, I was about to reveal when an email dropped into my inbox from
PlusNet support informing that my complaint had been resolved. I have
been trying to get Frontpage support for my PlusNet webspace for over 3
months and seemed to be getting nowhere. The issue appears to be
resolved but it took a letter to the MD and a MAC code to get a result.

This was my only complaint and I was leaving with regret but I had had
enough of my support ticket being passed backwards and forwards between
    departments.

So, I'm staying but thanks for all the responses and I hope I'm making
    the right decision.

More to the point, *why* *NOT* use any of these ISP's - that after all seems
    to be the question?

As I noted before, potentially phorm rules out BT if being spied on
worries you. I'd not move to an ISP like that without very good reason.

  17. Not that I use Front Page but there was something about this in the Plusnet
newsgroups a while back, saying it was a general problem.

  18. Neither.
If you must go, why not go somewhere with better service?
IDnet and Zen seem to have good reviews here.
Plusnet aren't perfect but they are honest and up-front about problems - and
relatively cheap too. Which, judging by posts in here is more that I could
say for BT, Tiscali, Orange, Talk Talk, Sky, - you name it, any
    "advertised" ISP.

Because they're not very good maybe ?

Tiscali in particular are a bunch of IDIOTS.

Of those mentioned by the OP, Plusnet are by far the best and he was leaving
    them !

Only problem David is that (unless you've gone with Virgin of course)
all you've done in reality is put another link in the chain where it
comes to support, which may be a good thing, but then again.......
