Insufficient bandwidth problem

Removing the 'bell wire' connection has raised the download connection
speed to approx 15 Mbps!

 

FTTC installed yesterday, supplied ECI modem connected at 77.4Mbps (no
way of telling actual upstream sync rate, probably not far shy of 20Mbps).

8800NL arrived today, working in VDSL2/bridging mode with openWRT
running the PPPoE session, connection 79.9/19.9 Mbps, the modem claims
it could achieve 119/39 Mbps if Openreach allowed it

 

It won't happen until they find a way to deal with the cross talk problem

 

I thought that was what vectoring did? I gather BT are in no hurry to
roll it out ...

 

Vectoring, never heard that term but then again names and functions change
from department to department. Where I go it's called balanced twisted
pair.

I've seen better descriptions of it, I'm sure if you search for G.993.5
they'll turn-up.

 

Vectoring is a bit more complicated than that.
It's done in a similar way to active noise suppression, in that the
crosstalk from adjacent pairs is reversed and fed in as
"anti-crosstalk" into the main signal.

 

Knowing there are one or two Billion users here, firmware v2.32e is now
available for any eager adopters, working fine for me ...

I think I was one of the earliest adopters of this router, and have
been very impressed with it (and have recommended it regularly).

You'd think (given the fact that you have to register on their site to
get write access to the forum and any access to the firmware files
already), they'd email registered users to tell them of updates, as it
wouldn't be an everyday occurrence.
In fact, I almost wonder what the point is of having people register
if you don't do that.

I've downloaded the update, and I'll be upgrading in the near future
(when the network is quiet).
I'll try to remember to post my experience with the updated firmware
in a few days.

 

Do you monitor your router with dslstats or similar? I do, but not
constantly, my stats from a few weeks ago were showing 20-40 error
seconds per hour (more CRC errors than FEC errors). Since running the
new version for a day it's showing 8-16 error seconds per hour.

It's possible that merely the reboot to do the upgrade has allowed the
line to sync with slightly different parameters, but speed/margin etc
are all pretty much the same.

Interesting to know what results you see.
