My parents along with my wife, son and myself reside on the same property in two separate homes. Currently I have a Zoom 5350 modem/router setup in my parents house and a Netgear WN2500RP extender in my house, but it is not keeping up with the demand very well at all. Here is a list of the devices...

    Parents House-
    1 desktop (wired)
    1 desktop (wireless)
    2 tablets

    My house-
    2 smart tv's
    2 tablets
    1 laptop

The houses are ~150ft apart. When I do the setup on the extender it's currently showing only a ~12% signal from the router.

Do I need to upgrade the modem/router, the extender or both? Specific model suggestions or specs I should be looking for would be great. As far as budget, I'd really like to keep it under $500. Any more than that and I'll just get cable hooked up at the second house.
