File sharing between WinME and WinXP

Discussion in 'Windows Networking' started by Stephen BIllard, Dec 27, 2003.

  1. Does anyone know how to set up Windows ME so that it will
use a User ID/Password when accessing shared folders on
Windows XP. Or, failing that, what user ID does Windows
ME present to XP when accessing the share.

RIght now, if I try to access the share, I get a password
dialog with no way to specify the user. My XP setup
    requires user level access.

I am running a network without domain logon.

  2. If you have XP Home Edition, run the Network Setup Wizard on XP to
fully enable file sharing. That should eliminate the password dialog:

If you've explicitly created a password for XP's Guest account, enter
that password at the password dialog.

If you have XP Professional and have explicitly disabled simple file
sharing, see this web page for how to get access from Windows ME:
