i have DSL, with a wireless router, WEP, and MAC filtering. I have
excellent signal strength for all of my network devices (on a
wireless-g network). When i test the bandwidth
    (http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/) on my laptop i get 2100-2700
kbps. On my desktop (with 77-81% signal strength) i get at best 800
    kbps at best
it's a fast machine, and i want the fastest connection possible -- any
    suggestions?

do all of your downloads run at that speed or just some? all downloads
from all servers or all downloads from the same server? was this a
1-time thing or is it consistent? do you get the same results when
you connect desktop/laptop directly to DSL modem by-passing the
    router?

Switch to WPA (WEP is too weak) and lose the MAC filtering (which is
    trivial to bypass).
Post a lot more details on the computers, OS, and network devices.
