dos based app network performance

  1. is there any way i can boost the speed of a dos based application running on
windows nt accessing files on a file server ??? the speed at which the app
is fetching data from the fileserver is of about 800 KB/sec over a 100 Mbit
network connection. other applications (w32 based) network traffic is
substantially greater (about 6-7 MB/sec) so the network works just fine. just
that any dos based application transfers files very very slow. the
application is essential to my company's wellfare so abandoning it is not an
option and yes, it is currently being ported (rewritten) to win32 (.net). the
volume of data is collosal (about 1 GB to transfer to the "client" per
operation with each operation taking about 30-45 minutes). the application
itself is just fine, doing the same operation on a locally stored copy of the
    data takes about 10-15 seconds (on a quad xeon/2gb ram/6x u320 scsi raid 10
machine). it's quite crucial that the speed gets improved

    many thanks in advance
