DMZ on Conexant Modem/Router

Discussion in 'Broadband' started by Philip Harding, Dec 2, 2003.

  1. I have a Conexant based Etec Moder Router (5810), and have a PS2 connected
to it via a 5 port question is, instead of forwarding all the
appropriate ports for network games, can i just but (the PS2's IP
address) in the box which says 'DMZ Zone'.
I would try it but someone on the PS2 forums (a wealth of technical
knowledge ;) ) said that they did this and then could access the internet
from either the PS2 or their PC?
I would just forward the ports but theres millions of them (about 1200 if
you include all the ranges), and there seems to be a max of 20 virtual
    server ports on the router.

Thanks for any help/advice, it's greatly appreciated.

That's what Origo 8400 owners do (same Conexant chipset). Not knowing a
PS2, I would think that you couldn't actually achieve anything if you
    could hack into it anyway.

  4. I don't think there's a chance in hell of someone 'hacking' a PS2, so
putting the IP of it in the 'DMZ Host IP' box won't affect anything but
opening up a load of firewall ports for that particular IP?

You can get more info by doing a search on the Origo forums
    ( for PS2.
