Best practice: 1 or 2 domains and 2 server location

Discussion in 'Windows Networking' started by Janus Knudsen, Jun 24, 2004.

  1. Hello..

Could someone be so kind to guide me in the right direction for setting up
    the perfect network.

We've local servers (servers inhouse) and we've servers located at some
    serverhosting company.
Currently our setup is using 2 different domains, one for the local and one
the outside location. These domains are in trust ( i think thats the word )
    ..
At the local place everything works fine and everybody is happy, but when
we've to connect to the outside we must supply our logincredential with a
    domain for instance. domain/username

    Very annoying....

It's also impossible to browse those outside servers from our network
    places - also annoying!

So... and as you probably allready has guesed... Im a newbie :O) - So bear
    over with me!

Has Microsoft some sort of a bestpractice guide ? (i cant find it)

    Kind regards
    Janus

  2. Without details it would be hard to advise but if the
trust relationship and permissions are setup correctly
you shouldn't need to supply credentials. When
accessing the remote domain resources the user
credentials should be passed back to the local domain
for authentication. In order for browsing to occur
you'll need WINS. This is NT 4, W2k, or W2k3
    environment.
