I am having some problems understanding the Flags Mask field of the arp
command. Here is a sample output:

    Address HWtype HWaddress Flags Mask
    Iface
    192.168.0.1 ether 00:40:05:2E:1C:D9 C
    eth0

What does the Flags Mask field mean and what does the C flag mean?
Also, what are some other possible values for this field?

    Thanks,

    -Greg

The man page should *always* be your first point of inquiry for such
    information.

"Each complete entry in the ARP cache will be marked with the C flag.
Permanent entries are marked with M and published entries have the P flag."

I think "Flags" and "Mask" are two separate fields. I found this in the
    arp man page:

Each complete entry in the ARP cache will be marked with the C flag.
Permanent entries are marked with M and published entries have
    the P
    flag.
