Address family not supported by protocol

Discussion in 'Linux Networking' started by Christian Christmann, Oct 5, 2006.

  1. Hi,

when I execute 'ssh -l NAME localhost', my Debian
    system issues a warning:
"socket: Address family not supported by protocol".
    ssh still works after that.

Any ideas why this message occurs and how I could fix/avoid
    it?

    Regards,
    Chris

  2. It's harmless. ssh first tries to connect over IPv6, which is
apparantly not configured on you system.

  3. Any ideas how to tell ssh to firstly connect to IPv4 and not to
    IPv6?

In addition, the AddressFamily option in ssh_config should help.
