I hope you all realize how amazingly helpful you are to so many of us. I'm
sure you get asked the same questions ad nauseum, but I gotta tell you, I
sure appreciated the links and more in-depth advice I received last night
when I was asked to fix what may have been the result of a critical update
installation gone awry (of course variables such as their BlackIce GUI
(business network), some hoggish old kids programs and little maintenance
surely added to it). (My happy results are posted in
    microsoft.public.win98_apps). Thanks!

The files on the folks' computer were mostly important business files, and I
plan to get a lot of mileage out of gently chiding them for being part of
the group of people who have yet to make the transition over to, "those who
back up their important files every week (or more often)," (thanks Pegasus).
I think they were really concerned about losing it all (no, no pressure
    there for me...).

    Whew. Jeanne.

"those who back up their important files every week (or more often),"

I make a point of backing up the file's on all of my systems on atleast a
    daily basis (sometimes twice daily).
