3Com switch gigabit port problems

  1. Hi, All!

I have 3Com switch (model 4226T) with 2 gigabit ports. I have connected one
to gigabit port in other 3Com switch and this connection works fine for 6
mounth. Other port I've connected to gigabit ethernet card (Intel PRO 1000).
When I try to ping server (Windows 2000 Server) with that gigabit card with
    packets greater than
20000 bytes, I don't recieve replies, and connection becomes unreliable. I
configured port on the switch to operate in 100Mbits full duplex mode and
now it works fine. But could anyone tell me how to make it work in 1 Gbit
mode? I've expirienced such problem with other two different servers (one
was IBM eServer 220) with Intel and 3Com gigabits cards.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Statically set all the GIG ports on all the devices to 1000Mbits Full
    Duplex.

Auto detect is not always reliable,..this way you force them to all do it
    the same way.

You may also have cable problems. Gigabit requires a minimum of CAT5E and
it must be in *perfect* physical condition. If the cable isn't sufficient
you will get the undependability at higher speeds that you are experiencing.
