I am moving to a new palce on the 20th. I cannot live without a broadband
now. So i am considering ZEN and Pipex. ZEN offers min 1 month contract,
but Pipex will charge around 50 if dicconcect from it within the first 12
months. I looked up on ADSLguide, only difference between them is that ZEN
has a better custom service. Their reliability and speed are about the
same.

So, any bad experience using ZEN/Pipex I should be awared off?

Thanks for your time.

I used pipex for 6 months last year in at my old place and had no problems
but I never had to use the support line.
I have just signed up and got online with them at my new place, the only
problem was that the exchange was enabled quicker than they managed to get
the user name / sign in details to me which meant using the support
telephone line - bit of a wait to get through (15 mins +) at then end of
which I was given the wrong info, the second phone call (7 - 8 mins to get
through) was successful and I was able to get online.

The actual service provision, speed etc is good but as I am sure you have
already worked out the support is hit and miss.

I think "officially " it is dynamic IP's however last year my IP never
changed in 6 months but it does not mean it cannot change, you might be able
to pay a bit more for fixed IP.

Been on Zen now for 11 months always been able to get online but thier
news server is a bit flakey and goes south about one weekend in 3-4
months. They provide 5 free IP addresses.

No problem at all using Zen.
Errors fixed quickly and good connection.
Ive been online with them for 99.999999% of the time that I attempt to
use my adsl connection, so I'm happy.

AFAIC, the disconnection fee is a non-issue. The vast majority of
people are happy with PIPEX, so I don't see myself wanting to
disconnect.

After a fair bit of research, I signed with them a coupla days ago.

The £50 (plus vat) disconnection fee is what pipex get charged by BT to hook
you up at the exchange, some of the other ISP's charge it to connect. Pipex
just charge you this if you clear off less than 12 months after signing up.
For my circumstances it was great the first time i was with them cos i was
moving house but did not know when so a monthly contract worked well - pipex
were the only ones doing this last year. I have no reservations about
signing with them again. Now if you want to talk about
fast4net................................(rant snipped)

ZEN also have this monthly contract policy and i dont think it involves any
disconnection charges. But I am not sure if they have any connection
charges though...
