Hello,

I have been searching google and other forums for several days now and
cannot find any information on my problem. I picked up a Z-Com
XI-325HP+ 300mw Wireless PCMCIA card and cannot install it in Fedora
Core 3. I have gotten all of the updates for Fedora, including the
latest kernel. I have been told that I would possibly need the hostap
drivers to run the card but cannot figure out how to get them. When I
try to install the hostap rpm for Fedora it tells me that I need
kernel support. I cannot find any kernel patches at all.

I have also found some information on the linux-wlan and the
NdisWrapper.

Can somebody point me in the right direction?

I am running:
Fedora Core 3
Kernel: 2.6.11-1.14_FC3
Network Card: Z-Com XI-325HP+ 300mw Wireless PCMCIA
802.11b

Thanks

You need to visit; http://prism54.org/

And download the firmware file (follow the Firmware link).
or goto; http://prism54.org/~mcgrof/firmware/

Then with the card inserted type; /sbin/lspci -v

Review the output and you should see something about your pcmcia card,
sample below;

03:00.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Intersil ISL3890 [Prism
GT/Prism Duette] (rev 01)
Subsystem: Netgear WG511 Wireless Adapter
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 80, IRQ 17
Memory at 20800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=8K]
Capabilities: <available only to root>

Rename the downloaded firmware file to the number you see (in the case
of the example; isl3890) and place the renamed file in /lib/firmware
location. Restart the system

Hint: cp 1.0.4.3.arm isl3890

If you need additional help post the output about your pcmcia card from
the lspci command.

Would I need to recompile my kernel to support that expansion slot if
support is not already compiled?

I forgot to mention that the card was in when I posted that last post
with the lspcmcia information. I installed apt on my laptop and
checked to see if I have the latest version of pcmcia-cs and apt said
that I do.

Any suggestions?

Personally, I do not run the kernels as supplied by Red hat/Fedora but
as a suggestion try the following;

locate prism54.ko

You should see an entry for the driver, example;

/lib/modules/2.6.11.8/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/prism54/prism54.ko

If you do try adding to /etc/modprobe.conf(create this file is needed);

alias eth1 prism54

Then with the card inserted as root type; modprobe prism54

If not then you might have to build the driver module from the kernel
source files.

It should be noted that many, many pcmcia card manufactures frequently
change the chipset of the card without changing the model number.
Sometimes they will change the version number but not always, for
example my card a Netgear WG511 Wireless Adapter V2 made in Tiawan
works just fine while the *same* card made in China does not.

You can also try one of the older firmware files from
http://prism54.org/~mcgrof/firmware/

Also try renaming the file to each one of the possible choices(isl3877,
isl3890 or isl3890).
