I have an MRi ADSL router (1 port) connect to my PC using the USB port - it
works fine.
I wish to use Yahoo Messenger with it. So what Privacy/Cookies settings
should I use on the PC? And what ports etc. should I open on the router - I
have already, for security reasons, reassigned the HTTP, FTP and Telnet
ports.

TIA
Chris

Yahoo Voice chat uses source TCP port 5000 & 5001. And UPD ports in the
range of 5000-5010. The actual messenger service is TCP port 5050. You'll
probably need port 80 open too, so they can send you spam. Sorry I mean
targeting advertisements.

I heard (can't remember where) that yahoo recently changed the YM protocol
so only Yahoo certified clients can use it. Gyach also stopped working so I
reckon that it's true. However, I doubt they changed the ports used.

My router (Draytek2600) lets through Yahoo no problem on the default
firewall settings. I do run a software firewall though and these are the
settings I have for Messenger:

Rule Summary:
This rule will Allow both incoming and outgoing traffic from/to All hosts on
TCP remote port(s) 20,23,25,80,119,5050,8001,8002. This rule will be
applied to All network interface cards. This traffic will be recorded in
the 'Packet Log'. The following applications will be affected in this rule:
Yahoo! Messenger.

This was taken from the Yahoo site:
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mesg/twin/twin-36.html

For webcam use I have this rule:

Rule Summary:
This rule will Allow both incoming and outgoing traffic from/to All hosts on
TCP remote port(s) 5100. This rule will be applied to All network interface
cards. This traffic will be recorded in the 'Packet Log'. The following
applications will be affected in this rule: Yahoo! Messenger.
