XPPro losing connection to 2K server

I have a 2K server active directory domain. A newly
installed XPPro machine loses connection to the server.
When lost, in Network places on the XP machine, the server
is visible but when clicked, after a long wait, the user
is asked for a logon name and password. After a reboot,
she is no longer asked and the connection is restored
until later in the day when the connection is lost again.

What may be causing this?
