Hi people,

pleeeeeease, with lots of sugar on top, can you explain silly me how to
enable WPA on a client?

I have WPA 11g 3com W-Router and it has an option for WPA.

I have patched my WinXP and i can access the "wireless tab" in network
properties.

I am enabling WAP on the router and trying to do so in XP. No go. XP has a
couple of WPA options and also WEP and TKIP. Can some one point out the
exact configuration?

/Kim

Can you be more specific about what does not work?

You need to enable WEP on both computers and enter the same key into the
configuration for the AP and the adaptor.

I have the same 3com setup. After testing a lot I discovered that WPA
does not and will not work! The XP client (patched) does not configure
WPA correctly I cannot get a connetion. The 3com client software does
not even have a WPA option in the security. Only WEP wil work.

I think we just have to wait for an update.

Hi Steve,

thank you for your reply. I don't have any issues with WEP, it works
flawlessly. But i need WPA.

If I enable WPA on the 3com router I get a "key". I am trying to insert it
in WinXP WPA configuration boxes.
After that I have enabled WPA, i loose my wireless connection to the router
and it can only be accessed using wired TCP/IP.

On 3com router i can read that "Wireless PCs may only use one form of
encryption, either WPA or WEP. The Keys must match those in the clients."
This works for WEP but not for WPA.

Hi,

and thank you for the reply!

This was sad news, as I was hoping not to hassle with changing the WEP key
everyday.

Do you use only the Wireless Card manager? Or any other software from 3com?

I am not sure if the rest of the software besides Wireless Card is
usefull... Is it?

They need a copy editor.

"If you are running an OS other than Win XP, you'll need a third-party
supplicant."

LOL

Okay, thought the setup would be similar to WEP. I chose not to let XP
manage my wireless connection and went with the D-Link utility because I did
not trust the generic XP manager.
