Hello to all,

Scenario:-

Main office - Windows 2003 server and client PCs
Remote office - Windows XP PC

RRAS has been set up on the server and appropriate credentials and dial-in
access given to users for remote access.

When setting up the VPN connection in Windows XP from the remote office, the
connection connects fine to the server at the main office and stays
connected. However, when trying to access a shared folder for example the
following error occurs:-

'An error occurred while reconnecting Z: To \\192.168.0.2\shared Microsoft
Windows Network: The local device name is already in use. This connection has
not been restricted'

Only occasionally can the shared folder be accessed, so it is actually
working at times. But the majority of the time this error occurs. it is
frustrating and I have yet to locate a solution.

Any assistance would be a great help,

kind regards,
Jeff

Many thanks but no system errors of such kind are generated.

Do you use AD? In your client's VPN connection properties, specify the
remote server's DNS IP address and WINS address. Connect and try again.
