I've just installed a Belkin F5D6001 to talk to an existing Vigor
2600we which has been working with my laptop for some time.

Using the Windows zero-config setup, the connection jumps from
excellent to non-existant about every 10 seconds and then
immediatately back to excellent again.

With zero-config disabled, the connection is predominantly reported as
unavailable, but every few minutes or so it will change briefly to
excellent. Whether signal is supposedly present or not, I actually do
have a connection, except for a few seconds after the reported change
in connection status.

I have checked that the authentication setting changed by SP1 is
disabled, what else can I try??

Cheers,
Matthew.

1) disable the WZC service
2) don't user the card's utility to configure it and show signal strength
-- don't install the utility
3) install the driver and configure the card using Device Manager
4) set the NIC's properties and check mark on Show icon in notification
area, which will show the signal strength when icon is being moused over.

Duane,

Thanks for the reply. I've already tried disabling the zero-config
service, and configuring the connection through the NIC properties,
which leads to the second (but still problematic) behaviour mentioned
above.

Anythings else you can suggest before I reinstall Windows?

Cheers,
Matthew.

I would try uninstalling and reinstalling the driver first. And maybe, go
out to the card's Website and get the driver.

I would go to the O/S reinstall as a no out situation.

Maybe, the reception is bad at the current location. Also getting the
router to the highest point in the home may help as well.

Had the same experience.
Called Belkin, they were very helpful.
Recommend you call them.

When you install the software, there are several options, choose easy,
do not chose let windows do utility.

The Belkin utility works better than the windows software.
Also disable the Service Wireless zero connection.

With it enabled, I got disconnects every few minutes.

So I have a Belkin wireless router and USB wireless adapter and Zero
wireless service disables with the Belkin Uiltity doing the scans and
connecrions.

The utility is a good tool.

Thanks to Misters Arnold & Tree.

I spent some time on the phone last night to Belkin support, and while
they were incredibly helpful and patient, they weren't able to fix the
problem with update drivers, etc, (and by this time I had already
installed XP - well it was due for a cleanout anyway!!).

In the end, I disabled the hiding of the SSID on the router (one of
the only things I hadn't disabled - WEP, etc, already were) and that
seemed to fix the problem (or 99% of it) - god knows why.

I've renabled (successfull) 128-bit WEP, so while I would prefer not
to disclose the SSID to all and sundry, it's probably not the end of
the world.

If anybody things of a way I can hide my SSID again, let me know!!

Cheers,
Matthew.
