Hi everyone. I recently purchased a new Dell Inspiron 1100 laptop, running the
Home Edition of Windows XP. I am using an SMC-2635w wireless card and
frequently lose my internet connection. Our router is an SMC Barricade, and my
brother is also on a wireless connection on our network, using a linksys card
and running Windows 2000. He has no troubles. When I am actually connected to
the internet, my signal is almost always "excellent." I have downloaded the
most recent driver from the SMC site and am out of ideas, but I am no expert.
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated. Please reply to (E-Mail Removed)
ASAP if possible. Thanks so much!

Noel

I just went through this with a linksys G card. Disable the Wireless zero
configuration service in XP. Uninstall any SMC drivers. Then with the
service disabled reinstall the SMC drivers. This should correct the problem.

I had similar problems with my Orinoco Gold using DHCP. Once I gave it a
hardcoded IP I haven't had a problem
since.

Just an FYI if anyone is still following this thread:

I gave up on the SMC on my HP ze4420us all it would do is lock up the
tcp\ip after getting an ip via dhcp... Hard coding an ip and manually
assigning the gateway, repaired my tcip stack and tried that winsock
repair out there, ect.... didn't change things. It never worked on
the HP but it did work on my old compusa rcl300 running WinMe.
Brought the laptop back to were I bought it and they put in a Linksys
WPC11 V. 4 ... Works like a champ now...
