I want to use Bluetooth between my XP Service Pack 2 and my HP IPAQ PDA. The
Windows instructions refer to a "Bluetooth Devices" icon in Control Panel.
However, that icon does not exist in my Control Panel. I followed the
Microsoft instructions in Article 883258. However, Windows still does not
recognize bluetooth. I will appreciate suggestions.

Does your computer have a bluetooth device? Does it show up in hardware
devices? Is it turned on (could be a software or hardware switch depending
on your computer manufacturer).?

No, I do not know of any bluetooth device that the computer has. The only
bluetooth device I am aware of is the HP IPAQ PDA that I want to connect to
the computer. I will appreciate futher comment.

You need a bluetooth radio device on the computer you want the IPAQ to
communicate with. What did you think the IPAQ wireless bluetooth would talk
too? On newer laptops the radio device could be built-in or you could get a
usb bluetooth dongle if there is no buit-in device.

Sorry, I am new to bluetooth and I did know what the IPAQ would talk to. My
computer is a desktop, not a laptop, and I see no evidence of a built-in
radio device. So, I guess I need the "USB Bluetooth dongle" you refer to.
Can you recommend what I should buy?

Sorry, I can't make a recommendation as I have not used one for several
years. My laptop has buit-in bluetooth. Maybe a google search for bluetooth
dongle will produce some results you can use.

Or maybe some else has a recommendation.

I have the same problem. But I have the device dongle installed, and have
updated the XP OS to latest, checked support recommendations and still can't
get "Bluetooth Devices" to show up in control pannel. When I try to run
bthprops.cpl nothing happens. I can get a basic connection to work between
laptop and phone, but the Nokia software that does synch between Outlook and
phone says I can't use bluetooth on the system due to missing HW or SW. Any
ideas?
