XP Pro / Wireless BSOD trouble

Hi,

System: Acer Centrino 1.3MHz, Intel 855GM, Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3B
adapter communicating with Conceptronix AP through USR router that also has
cable modem connected.

Problem: I get the BSOD usually when using IExp6 or other web clients, the
blue screen has messages about possible hardware failures, please boot in
safe mode etc etc (same as everyone else who has posted to XP groups about
this). However in my case, it sometimes mentions my Pro/Wireless adapter
driver W70n51.sys, other times it doesn´t mention any file at all, so
presumably I have more than problem here..
Anyway, about 20 minutes ago I got a blue screen as usual, this time when i
restarted it blue screened just as windows was about to start up with the
file s24trans.sys mentioned, this is the Intel WLan Packet driver.

I have trawled Windows and Intel sites for something helpful but alas to no
avail...

Any helpful comments much appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

You forgot to give the Stop Error code. It should look something like this:

STOP: 0x0000000A (parameter, parameter, parameter, parameter)
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

The last time it crashed (about an hour ago) I got the blue screen error
message without a reference to either of the above mentions .sys files.

The error code was 0x0000000A (0x726F6C77,0x00000002,0x00000000,0x805025DE)

Worse possible one. That can be caused by almost anything.
Possibilities. Read:
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxp/
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...d_stp_hwpg.asp
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...kmsgs/6077.asp
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...t4/sopch16.asp

A bad driver for your mouse, sound blaster, video card are common.
Having Roxio's EZCD older versions (4 & 5) is common.
Bad/marginal memory strip is common (get http://www.memtest86.com/).
Sound cards (and some NICs) sharing IRQs with other devices is common).
....the list goes on.

Ok thanks, I will do some reading and /or driver reinstallation...

Meanwhile, 10 minutes ago I just got yet another new stop error:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

Stop: 0x00000050 (0xE6B03999, 0x00000000, 0x80594D32, 0x00000002)

This is the only stop error thats happened since I installed the touchpad
drivers, maybe that was the cause of the previous error as you suggeseted it
might be...

More wisdom much appreciated.

Cheers

Nick

Is that a Laptop, or a Desktop?

A long time ago, I had random and different types of Stop Errors like you seem
to be having. My problem was resolved by relocating PCI Cards to eliminate
IRQ Sharing on the Sound Device. If the Acer you have is a Desktop, you may
be able to do the same thing. Look in System Information (All Programs,
Accessories, System Tools) at the IRQs to see what kind of sharing is going
on. (Only /some/ NICs and all Sound Devices seem to have problems.)
