hello, first off I would like to thank anyone who can help me with
this.

here is a quick shot of the details

OS: win xp pro sp1
networking: wpc54g wireless nic
linksys driver:3.20.21.0
access point: varies - this is a road warrior

what happens:

On startup the xp laptop picks up an IP address from a DHCP server,
this is telling me that the wireless connection seems to be OK. An ip
config /all gives a "good" IP address, mask, dns servers, and default
gateway. From the incident last night I know dhcp server was the
default gateway, according to ipconfig.

After startup there is no internet connectivity, ipconfig gives out
apparently good information for the WLAN to be used but.... arp -a
list no mac address for the default gateway/dhcp server. ping by IP
address fails for default gateway or Internet addresses. It seems like
the dhcp broadcast sends the ip address but from here ip is not
resolving arp request, can't access the subnet = can't route =
screwed.

Here in the office it connects fine with our linksys wrt54g 802.11g AP
as well as a netgear mr814 802.11b at his house and starbucks for that
matter <whatever they use>.

Sorry for the lack of details on this, I'm trying to solve a problem
2800 miles from where I am and unfortunately connectivity is the
issue.....<sigh>.

Thanks for any help, tips, words of support, etc etc.

maybe you activated a too high wep encryption? in my case with a d-link
access point
i get an ip adress in this case, but don't get any data over the connection.

try to deactivate the whole encryption and retry.

yours, dreamguard.
