Hello,
We run a 9 system pier to pier network. Last week we brought in a new 4 in
1 Cannon printer. After instillation of the unit problems began arising.
Users receive this message when trying to print or access the shared network
drive, "No more connections can be made to this remote computer at this time
because there are already as many connections as the computer can handle."
This was not a problem and didn't happen until we set up the Cannon.
The network has 6 xp-pro and 3 xp-home operating systems. Network
compatibility problem?
We are looking to finally get a dedicated server. Any suggestions would
really be appreciated.
TIA

I believe XP Pro. can support up to 10 connections and XP Home can handle up
to 5. So, you definitely want the printer hooked up to an XP Pro. box
(unless this is a network printing device, but you didn't say it was).

Scott,
Occasionally, we had, or would have, same kind of problems happened,
I would like to know more details... specific the condition/circumstances
....

You mean that if the printer is hooked up to WindowsXP Pro, instead of
WindowsXP Home,
then we can access that printer (of WidowsXP Pro) even from WindowsXP Home
( in case this Pc is accessing , is being accessed by) fewer than 6)
supposing that this WindowsXP Pro is accessed(or accessing) from up to 10
computers.
Thanks in advance.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. It doesn't matter what a machine
is accessing. The 10 and 5 numbers I gave are about a machine being
accessed.

If you have the printer hooked up to an XP Home machine and there are 2
people accessing it for, say file sharing purposes, that leaves only 3 more
accounts that can access the printer.

Thank you for your advice..
I think it works.
We thought that we can not use printers under more than 5 PCs peer-to-peer
network
with WindowsXP-HE, but I understand that this was incorrect.

We are now using network-printer(2) under WindowsXP(Pro), 8 PCs,
without any HE so far.
( Just we thought that these circumstances, we could not hook-up Windows
XP-HE. )

According to your advice, we will be using printer of above mentioned
network.
from Windows XP (HE) PC.

i.e.
Sooner or later,
we want to use 2 or 3 WindowsXP(HE) Laptop PCs for this purpose
occasionally.

Many Thanks.. It could work!

( I am sorry not reply sooner, since I do not use PC often. )

That was not my advice. If you do this, then you will only be able to have
5 simultaneous connection to the XP Home box and people printing will count
in this total.

You should connect your printer to the XP Pro. machine so you can support
more people printing at the same time.
