Hi Guys

Just replaced my old Netgear MR314 which worked fine.

OS's on all PC's XP Pro except the Acer which has XP MCE

New Router Linksys WRT54G (V1.1) Firmware 4.20.8
DHCP Disabled

SSID - ISO-OSI-7Layer
WPA2 Personal TKIP+AES

nforce-3a XP1 - 192.168.5.2 - 00-E0-4C-E7-9F-nn - RTL8139 NIC
Compaq 1830 - 192.168.5.4 - 00-38-BD-12-58-nn - RTL8139 NIC
m810lr CUBE - 192.168.5.5 - 00-07-95-09-6F-nn - SiS 900 PCI NIC
Acer 5633 LAN - 192.168.5.6 - 00-16-D4-53-A4-nn - Broadcom 440x NIC
Acer 5633 WiFi- 192.168.5.7 - 00-18-DE-25-A5-nn - Intel PRO WiFi 3945ABG

Internet LAN and WiFi works fine but I cannot fathom Print/File sharing.

Every-time I run "Setup home or small office network" it adds an
"Internet Gateway" in the "Network Connections" window (ICS I assume).

If I shutdown all but one PC and run the "Setup home or small office
network" I always get this "Internet Gateway" added regardless of which
PC I use.

If I disable "Internet Gateway" I can then file share but cannot access
the internet!?

Any ideas why this happens and how to overcome it as I've never seen it
before?

TIA

Nope mate I've done all that.

ICS seems to have been installed if I disable I can use shares if I
enable I can get on the internet.

Ok so now both internet and filesharing works with
nForce-2a/M810LR/Acer5633/Compaq1830 all same workgroup "MAHOOSE" I
guess it takes a while to update!? I can also use VNC between all PC's
now .. weird!

nforce-3a XP1 - 192.168.5.2 - 00-E0-4C-E7-9F-nn - RTL8139 NIC
Compaq 1830 - 192.168.5.4 - 00-38-BD-12-58-nn - RTL8139 NIC
m810lr CUBE - 192.168.5.5 - 00-07-95-09-6F-nn - SiS 900 PCI NIC
Acer 5633 LAN - 192.168.5.6 - 00-16-D4-53-A4-nn - Broadcom 440x NIC

But what is this ...

http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/6...gatewayay4.jpg

This appears on ALL 3 PC's (except Cmpaq1830). Folder sharing just seems
to work when it feels like it. I re-ran the Network Set-up wizard on the
Acer5633.

So Internet is working and File-sharing but I didn't do anything to make
it work!??

I'd love to know what "Internet Gateway" is and what it's doing (See URL
above).

Thanks

Disable the Internet Gateway, and then delete it. Then make sure all
your computers are configured for DHCP, and reboot them.

Hi John I eventually had to set-up the old netgear router again so I
could reach through and play tunes.

I'll do as you say *but but but* I really want static IP's as I use VNC.
So this issue is defo Router related. Anyway soon as the pounding
headache has gone I'll go with DHCP see if it works and migrate one by
one to static.

Thanks

If you use static IP instead of DHCP, make sure that (1) subnet mask,
(2) gateway, and (3) are set correctly. The best way to get the correct
values is to use DHCP, and then set those values manually.

If you have a router, you cannot possibly need ICS. Prolly if you do a
reboot of everything it will 'come right'.

Disable uPNP on your network, and hte offending object will vanish.
Your router happens to support uPNP, and so Windoze is automatically
doing something useless with it. Turn that off, its just a security
nightmare anyway.

Ah ha ... I think you have cracked it mate! I have left DHCP on the
router for first 10 IP's then manually on each PC set a static IP. The
only exclusion is my Acer Laptop when I enable both WiFi and LAN the
"Internet Gateway" thingy appears.

Took some pissing around but I think you got it ... that was my next
step honest

Thanks Mark (and all)
