I think I finally found a way to be able to get my XP Home Ed. and Windows
ME computers to see each other on my home network. NetBeui seems to be the
answer. Here is the link that showed me how to do this.

http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
see towards bottom of page Re. NetBeui

This link tells you how to install Netbeui on XP
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...n/netbeui.mspx

Hope this helps others that were having the same problem.

Stu

This isn't a fix, it's a workaround. You can successfully network two
computers using only TCP/IP - if you can't then you have a problem that
still isn't fixed.

Any idea what the problem might be? Is there any reason not use this fix?

Exactly what problem are you having? What was not working on the network
that caused you to try the NetBEUI "fix"?

There are several good reasons not to use this "fix" - for one, Windows can
encounter problems if you ever do repair the TCP/IP problem and then Windows
can't decide which network protocol to use. You get all sorts of strange
and interesting happenings in that case. Poor network performance, shares
that can be seen but not touched, and so on.

Another good reason is that the "fix" hasn't actually fixed anything so if
you ever install software that requires that TCP/IP works correctly it will
fail in a NetBEUI environment.

I have two computers, one has XP home, the other Windows ME. Using TCP/IP,
XP could always see ME but ME would not see XP computer. Occasional, for no
reason I could determine, ME would see XP. The shared files for XP were
always listed on the ME network places ME computer. When ever ME would see
XP, as soon as I rebooted, ME would no longer be able to see XP. I use a
Linksys router and have cable model. Accessing internet never a problem for
either computer.

I'll bet it's a network browsing issue. Try this - turn on and log onto
both computers, then walk away for at least fifteen minutes. Can you browse
the network properly then?

No, I have left it all day logged on using the TCP/IP and almost always ME
will see XP. Once in awhile it would but 95% of the time, no.
