I have three PCs, an Xbox and a PS2 connecting though a Linksys router tothe
internet (cable, with NTL), with these IPs:
Linux PC: 192.168.1.2
XP PC: 192.168.1.3
Other XP: DHCP
Xbox: DHCP
PS2: DHCP
Everything works fine, except that recently I have noticed that my main XP PC
loses it's internet connection. I can't surf, I can't ping, I can't do
anything. I can still see my LAN, however.
The only solution I have found is to change my IP from 192.168.1.3 to ..1.4.
This works from any amount of time from 1 minute to three days, but usually
only for less than an hour. Then I get disconnected again, and have to
re-change the IP (back to .1.3).
I have changed no hardware, software, settings or drivers. Rolling back to a
previous System Retore from several months ago doesn't work. The NIC is not
set to turn off for power saving. Using DHCP on the NIC has the same result -
disconnections, and I have to ipconfig /renew to get back online. Sometimes I
have left my PC on, and come back to find it disconnected, other times I get
disconnected in the middle of a download, or mail retrieval.
The event viewer shows nothing out of the ordinary. I have tried anotherNIC,
I have tried a firmware upgrade on the router, I have tried all the Windows
Updates and updating the NIC drivers. I am *convinced* it must be a Windows
problem, but am open to other ideas.
Anyone?
