Hi

Just got a new laptop with XP and setting it up on home network and so on.
Probably a really stupid question but how do I get the Administrator
account listed as one of the options on the welcome screen. I can only
see all of the new accounts I have created not the Administrator, I know
it exists because I can use it by going back to the Win2K style of log
on but I would prefer to have it on the welcome screen. I know I can
have the other accounts as administrator but I prefer not to.

Silly question I know but for the life of me I can't work out how to do it.

Cheers

R

using RegEdit, navigate to:
>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserLis t

create a new DWORD value, named Administrator.

data: 1 = show Administrator
0 = Don't show Administrator

what about under the circumstances where the administrator is there but
not any of the users, how can he/she log on from the welcome screen?

If you download and install Tweak UI (part of the PowerToys suite ) from
Microsoft you can just switch this function on or off at will.

Tweak UI gives you access to alot of things that you can't normally access.

AFAIK you can't get XP up and running without setting up users.
I'm not sure I understand your question.

I mean say there are a couple of users who are able to log on from the
welcome screen but neither are unavailable (e.g. left the company, gone
on holiday). On Win2K the administrator would still be able to access
the machine and create new users. This doesn't seem to be the case with
WinXP
