Hi,

We rebuilt (from bare metal) our servers at 2003 last weekend. The XP SP2
clients now take anywhere between 5-25 minutes to logon to the servers? The
few remaining NT4 boxes login fine. The 2003 install was a fresh basic
Server 2003 Std install i.e. whatever services etc are put in as standard.

I noticed that the PDC decided to include the DHCP server role
automatically, could this be interfering? We use static IPs for all clients.
Can I take out the DHCP role without it screwing everything up? Will it make
any difference. It's not like we are doing anything fancy!

Can anyone recommend a good guide for getting the AD stuff setup properly,
like an idiot guide, so that we can get the servers sorted out properly and
GPO applied. It ain't like NT server......

Regards

Jonathan

NT computers don't use DNS to find the DC. XP clients do. Sounds like you
don't have DNS set up properly.

Thanks for the reply, I realised about an hour after sending the message
that the clients were looking for the old server IPs - Doh, Once I altered
the clients it all went speeding along - Boy do I feel stupid :-)

Too many long nights in the server room I think...
