I have a successful network with my XP laptop and my desktop 98.
What I would like is when I boot my XP the 98 does not boot as well
At present to avoid this I unplug the mains lead from the 98

Check the BIOS (hardware) settings on the Windows 98 computer for a "Wake on
LAN" setting that needs to be disabled. It will most likely be in the power
options.

Thanks for your help.
I found that
'Modem ring on/Wake on LAN' was already disabled but I disabled 'Wake on PCI
card' and that did the trick
