Hi, I want to network my laptop which runs on window XP(home) with my
desktop window 98 SE through a router. My Window 98 can asscess all the
laptop's shared files. When I use the Window XP, I can see the share folders
from my desktop, however when I try to access the file, a window pop up ask
me to enter the password. The user id is pre-set as "win98\guest" (I called
my desktop computer win98). When I enter the supposed password, there is no
responded. I already deactivate the firewall and anit-virus programs in my
desktop and it is still not working. Also it doesn't allow me to change the
user ID to other name. Please help.

I think that you've run into a known bug in Windows XP. It happens
when a computer's name includes a space, the computer has a shared
disk or folder with a password, and Windows XP tries to access the
share.

On Win98, remove all spaces (leading, embedded, trailing) from the
computer's name and reboot. Then, try accessing the folder from XP
again.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply. I delete the space and IT WORKS!!! Really don't
understand why Microsoft didn't mention this simple fix in more places....
