Hello all

A friend wants to use her Xbox with a Tiscali ADSL connection and I was
already to just order a Ethernet router (wireless isn't a requirement as the
PC & xbox will be in the same room). However, her modem is a USB model so a
direct connection isn't possible how do I get round this, any USB to
Ethernet adaptors anyone can recommend?

TIA

Bill

Why not use Windows ICS on the PC with a crossover cable to the XBox?

Windows ICS? Crossover cable? What are these strange and arcane terms? Time
to do a little research before my next post me thinks ;o)

ICS - Internet Connection Sharing - a software router included with
Windows (from 98se on, I think).
Crossover cable - allows you to connect two ethernet cards together
directly - for more than two machines you need straight-through cables
connected to a hub or switch.

I know I am going to get flak over this, attacking the sacred MS god, but
a lot of people don't recommend ICS. A router is a much better option if
you can.

Your best option is to get a new ethernet modem or modem\router with
built in hub\switch, (there's plenty around). Both the PC and xbox
will connect to the modem\router and this will also negate the need
for the PC to be on when the xbox needs internet access as you would
if you used ICS, (which isn't a particularly brilliant plan).
