Is X-MICRO USB WLAN 11G wireless adapter safe to install in XP Home laptop?

I got an XP warning that the software for X-Micro's 11G dongle wasn't
"safe" (allegedly per XP, that it wasn't "Logo tested" or something)
therefore I cancelled. The installation instructions were confusing
and I may have actually installed the driver/software from CD although
I opted to cancel when the Windows warning came up. (Running both
install and found new hardware at the same time according to the
X-Micro manual.)

Now, there is an X-Micro icon on the desktop.

However, I haven't taken my laptop to a cafe to see it it works.

My question: Is the software 'SAFE' for XP?

Also, what does this fine print really mean?? The X-Micro box claims
to support XP, but states in fine print, "This product is designed for
the 2.4GHz WLAN network thoughout the EC region and Switzerland, with
restriction in France."

That "warning" from XP is just that - MS didn't certify the driver, so you're
on your own. That said, you would just be one more X-Micro user that ran
right through that bang and installed and operated the adapter successfully,
and believe me my systems are *loaded* with multiple drivers that MS never
certified and they work just fine.

My recipe: always (ALWAYS!) have a known-good boot partition image saved away
where you can get to it to restore it, a known-good partition restoration
process , and then go for it!

fwiw, I use the (pre-Symantec) PowerQuest Drive Image, works great, never lets
me down...
