WZC is missing...

Sorry for the multipost to xp.hardware, but I just found this group.

I'm trying to set up an 802.11A ad-hoc net between a pair of computers. Too
bad there isn't a much 802.11A hardware available in USB devices, because
this D-Link stuff (DWL-AG132) management software is a bad joke. Even as bad
as Linksys' software is, this is far worse. In the end I might have to use
WZC, which means I'll have no idea if I'm actually running A or G or B.
:-( But with WZC I can make the devices work, where the D-Link software is
useless.

Is there generic control software?

Anyway, my real question...one of the computers does not have the WZC
service installed. It's a Dell Inspiron 4150, Win XP SP-2, no internal WLAN.
I've done all the auto updates, and still that service is MIA. It's not
disabled....it's not there.

Any ideas how to get it installed without reinstalling XP? Copy some dlls?
Anything?

-John O

Hi
Use Windows regedit, drill down.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WZCSVC
Add a DWORD entry named "Start" and value "2".
Note, if you are Not familiar with regedit do not try to use it without
knowledgeable support.

You may try to check the registry first. Or install it from the properties
of the wireless connection. This link may have more resolutions.

Dude, thanks.

Ironically, the connection started almost immediately after a reboot, even
though I didn't enable WZC...the D-Link tool is in charge on this machine,
but WZC is running things on the other machine. That's perfect because I can
see that I'm running at 5 GHz.

FWIW...this is my solution to trade show WiFi madness, where you'll see
30-50 nodes jamming up the spectrum.

Thanks, it's good to know my machine isn't unique. And also good to know
this group is out here.
