wvdial and red hat 9 (newbie)

I connected to my ISP using Wvdial from the shell. X is not running
at all
after I connected it didnt return to the command prompt. So I
control-alt-f2 to another window. Is this the "Proper" way to do
this?

You might use either:

wvdial &

or

wvdial
Control-Z after connection established

help fg
help bg
