>Anyone know where to buy (in the UK) replacement antenna for a PCI Wireless
>card. It is the stubby type and has SMA connector and swivel fitting.
It's a reverse SMA connector. Ebay shows over 200 assorted vendors or
2.4GHz omni antennas. Search for "2.4Ghz omni". The stock antenna
that comes with most PCI cards has problems.
1. It's fairly low gain (+2dBi optimisticly).
2. It's hidden behind a big wall of sheet metal (the computah).
3. It's mixed in with a bunch of cables that will affect the pattern.
4. It's in a terrible location and needs to up higher.
5. It really should be a directional antenna, not an omnidirectional.
All these point to a replacement antenna that's at the end of a piece
of coaxial cable instead of the stock piece of junk. I'm not sure
which one to recomend. For example, Dlink has a bunch of external
antennas at:

Most come with both an SMA and TNC connector so almost any of these
will work. Hawking has a similar line of antennas:

Incidentally, this is what's inside the original omni:
