Simple setup but not working: 1 server (not DC) and 1 NIC. Have static IP
from ISP and a Linksys BEFSR41 Router configured to pass PPtP, IPSEC, etc to
the server, port 1723 as well. DHCP, DNS with forwarding are on the server.
I've tried simple incoming connection and RRAS to setup the connection. The
users are allowed in.

When I try to get the client to connect to the IP supplied by the ISP, the
connection hangs at "verifying username & password". No matter what I try, I
can't get it to work. I believe that all conditions are met (data encryption,
challenge, etc.)

I setup the identical thing before with no problems - the only difference
being the router.

Any ideas?

try to use telnet to test the port 1723. if the port is open, you may have
GRE issue. This troubleshooting page may help,

Make sure that the pptp passthough is enabled on the Linksys and if you have
a model that shows " SPI" in the configuration be sure to disable it as the
BEFSR41 would not work for me with that enabled. Another thing that will
help is if you configure the client VPN connectoid to use pptp instead of
auto as at least W2K will try l2tp first. --- Steve
