wrt54g- the worst!

Hi,

Well, I should have done more research before buying the Linksys
wrt54g access point. Like many other people, I am experience the same
lock up/freeze/crash problams with this product. Note: if you are
considering buying one of these- DON'T!

I also bought two Linksys wireless PC cards which work great- when I'm
not trying to use the home access point.

I've tried various purported work-arounds, all to no avail. The wrt54g
continues to freeze intermittently and I lose my connectivity to the
network.

At this point I am not interested in further trouble-shooting. As a
product manager I know when a product has been released before it's
ready...

Here's my question: has anyone been able to succesfuly return this
product directly to Linksys? I bought mine at the infamous Frys
Electronics here in the Palo Alto, and shudder at the thought of
wasting time trying to return this thing there. I'd like to just stick
it in a box and send it back for a refund, though I (stupidly) did not
keep the orginal box.

On a side note, can anyone recmmed a 54g WAP that actually works _and_
does packet filtering in its firewal like thie one (the joys of
steailing linux source...)?

Should have mentioned that I did RTFM at:

http://www.linksys.com/rma/#how

saying:

What is the procedure for a refund?

Refunds are provided by the Linksys reseller within the period of time
the reseller allows. Linksys does not provide refunds. No exceptions.

Am I really out $150?

Well, if you want to be able to take stuff back, you'r generally in a better
position if you keep the box.
I happen to have one I'm perfectly happy with, and will sell you the box,
for the low price of $50

Your best bet is probably to go to the store, and not go away until you
get a refund.

A few months ago I bought a Linksys wireless router (forget the model)
hooked it all up and got strange results. LAN worked fine, wired access to
WAN was fine, but from the wireless connection I could only check e-mail. I
took it back...paid $50.00 less for a SMC router and cardbus adapter that
worked right out of the box! Flashed, updated and have not looked back!

I purchased a WRT54G and had problems with the wired PC (the wireless client
worked fine). The wired PC kept loosing connection to the router (couldn't
ping the router).

Turned out that it was something that I did on XP to cause the problem, as a
reinstall of XP did the trick.

eBay....

Or return it. I always buy things where I know I can easily return it.

BTW: I have the same unit and it rocks!

Frys has got to be the easiest place on the plant to return stuff,
based on all the boxes on their shelves with those little notes about
how it was previously opened by some other customer...

Maybe its the line(s) that bother him... The returns I've made
(Fountain Valley, CA) store have always been no problem it was just the
never ending line to get to the return drones...

Yeah I hate the crowds, the lines and the idiot employee's but the
prices are great. As long as you don't buy one of the opened/returned
items.

Just to add another voice to this thread; I've been using the WRT54G AP and
NEVER had a problem with it. It's worked flawlessly since day one.
