The WRT54G logs as accessed through the web interface are useless. No time
stamps - no details other than the foreign IP and port. Does anyone have a line
on a way to get more detailed data?

I've started working on the same thing. I even wrote Cisco management in
desperation a few days ago. (About LinkSys inconsistencies, what seems
to be arbitrary decisions based on experience with firmware changes &
updates and their support personnel refusing to answer even basic
hardware questions, etc.)

Maybe you've already been to these pages at:

http://www.seattlewireless.net/index...3ea8bea494a1db
,

http://www.sveasoft.com/forum6.html

http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=12694

but I think the discussions are useful. You also probably want ot go to
the fcc page listed for the wrt54g and look at the specs there. I'm
spending time now looking at specs. of the different radio and chip
manufacturers to see the differences in the different models and what
commands are compatible with what. My home router is a WRT51AB and I'm
just about ready to convert the computers here to Linux. However, the
last WRT54g I've been working with, they cannot convert from Windows 2k
pro. (Accountants involved, etc.) So I'm stuck with the same log
uselessness for now. On the LinkSys Singapore forum, (Which took an act
of God to find.) they say LinkSys is trying to implement something 'in
the next firmware release', which obviously didn't show up(?). However,
here's the link anyway:

Wow... Thank for for all this data. I did load up my WRT54G with the "wifi guy"
version of the 2.00.8 firmware from the Linksys DSLReports forum. He's added
some nice features, like being able to select antennas and adjust power levels.
I was hoping he'd work on the logging next and will suggest it to him...
