WRT54G Linksys Router needs periodic power cycling?

I have a Cable Modem, a WRT54G and every 20-30 hours, I have to cycle the
power on the router or I lose the ability to connect to the net. This
happens to all computers and cycling the modem does not help.

I regain net access within seconds of recycling the power.

Anyone have an idea what could be causing this?
Thanks.

That's what you get when you buy a consumer grade router.

That is an interesting comment.

I have had a Netgear "Consumer Grade" router running for probably 2 years
without re-booting or any problems.

I also have the LinkSys WRT54G that has been running for about three weeks
without any issues whatsoever. I would make sure that you have the latest
firmware loaded into the router (version 1.30.7).

I have the latest firmware. I've been running it for four months and this is
the first hint of trouble. Only been acting up a few days though.

I should have said, I've been running the router for 4 months. The firmware
has only been running a couple of weeks.

Should have been more clear.

I've usually seen this when the auto-negotiation at the hardware layer isn't
quite right. Try setting the router to "10 megabit, half duplex" and see if
that resolves your issue. That's worked for me in the past.

I also have problems with that type of router, althought mine has to be
reset every 0-30 seconds. The wireless client seems to be OK but the wired
PC looses all connection to the router (can't even ping the router itself).
The router has had the latest firmware, but that hasn't solved the problem.
Can anyone help??

Nonsense... I haven't had any problems with the WRT54G hanging until
the latest firmware rev. Before I got cable I used a Netgear RT338
ISDN router. I ran that thing 24/7 for over *one year* and it ran
flawlessly. And the WRT54G was doing very well -- *until* I upgraded
the thing. It's been randomly hanging ever since. It's been a *real*
problem when I don't have the WLAN security configured correctly.

Replace it.

I had the same problem with my WRT54AB at work. I replaced it (under RMA
plus a nominal upgrade fee) to a WRT55AG.

SAME PROBLEM! Every few days the thing just hangs. WiFi clients can
associate with its WAP, but neither wired or wireless clients will lease an
IP address via DHCP. Nor does the router respond to pings from wired
clients with static addresses.

The BEFW11S4 I have at home is solid as a rock though. Seems their QA is
out to lunch. There have been lots of complaints here on their newer
products. I hope Cisco whips them back into shape. But I wont hold my
breath.

Best of luck.

I am seeing the same problem with my WRT54G router. About once a day, all
my wireless clients lose signal and I have to power-cycle the router before
they can reconnect.
