WRT54G Firewall -- Is it sufficient?

Prior to having this wireless router, I had installed ZoneAlarm (the
free version) in one of my PCs.

Now that I updated to their latest version, I am forced to do a
complete un-installed, which results im my having to re-configure all
the applications allowable to access the internet.

This got me thinking "Can I just get rid of ZoneAlarm altogether, now
that I understand there is a built-in firewall with the WRT54G
router?"

Your advice(s) would be much appreciated here. And thanks in advance

The best advice I've heard is:
- keep the HW firewall, it's a great first wall
- keep the SW firewall too, it will catch the attempts to GO OUT from your
system.

The wireless side of that router can easily be hacked by someone with
another wireless network in your area.

And there are war drivers who drive around neighborhood looking for open
wireless networks.

That WRT54G doesn't have a firewall. It has NAT and SPI. A router with a
true firewall start at about $500 and up.

The link explains the router for home use.

The link gives some basics on wireless security.

The protection of the machine starts with the O/S, if you have one that
you can enable the protection features.

http://www.uksecurityonline.com/husdg/windows2000.php

It talks about all of the Windows O/S's
