WRT54G and firmware upgrades

I just set one of these up with 2 wired computers and 1 wireless
computer and so far it works great (I did have a problem with one of
the wired computers which is a Sun Ultra 5 running Solaris 9; I had to
force it's ethernet interface to 10Mpbs because neither autoneg and
forcing 100 Mpbs would work with the 54G's built-in switch).

The 54G was shipped with firmware version 1.42.2 and I notice that
Linksys has posted a new firmware release for this model:

Product: WRT54G ver. 2
Classification: Firmware Release History
Firmware Date: 11/20/2003
Release Date: 12/12/2003
Last Firmware Version: 2.00.8

Firmware Version 2.00.8
- Initial release

-------

Not much info there. Anyone have the skinny on this or have installed
it? I'm wondering if this adds functions or what. Does linksys
support respond to these sorts of "information inquiries" if I were to
email them?

Thanks for any info!

You need to be careful with this. There is some confusion whether or not this
firmware can be used in all WRT54Gs or only version 2 hardware models. Depending
on how you get to the download page on LinkSys's site, the answer varies.

I put it in a version 1 model and it works great.
As far as the version info, click on the version info link on the download
page for that firmware.

How can you identify the version 2 hardware?

I have a WRT54G V1.1, and I recently updated the firmware with Revision
V2.00.08 from the Linksys' US website, and I didn't notice much difference
at all (though it appears to me that my wireless connection drop/break
problem happens a lot less frequently than before the update).

IIRC, look at the label on the exterior of the router.
